Kuartal Impact Invests in Rinjani-Lombok UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve Through Rinjani Selects®

Impact investment will support the next generation of businesses turning Rinjani-Lombok’s natural and cultural heritage into innovative geoproducts and services.

Kuartal Impact today announced its investment in the Rinjani-Lombok UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve through its support for RINJANI SELECTS®, a programme designed to build and strengthen small businesses and startups creating innovative geoproducts and services connected to the region.

The 2026 RINJANI SELECTS cohort brings together four emerging Indonesian brands and social enterprises — TENGGARA, BARUJARI, SCNDBRU, and SASKA — representing a new generation of entrepreneurs building businesses inspired by the landscape, resources, culture, and communities of Rinjani-Lombok.

Kuartal Impact’s investment reflects a belief that the conservation of extraordinary landscapes and the creation of sustainable economic opportunity do not have to be separate goals. By supporting entrepreneurs who build businesses around the unique assets and identity of a place, impact investment can help create livelihoods, strengthen local value chains, and provide new economic incentives for protecting the environment and cultural heritage.

Investing in the Rinjani-Lombok Ecosystem

The Rinjani-Lombok region is home to extraordinary geological, ecological, and cultural diversity. Its landscapes, agricultural systems, traditional knowledge, communities, and creative traditions form an interconnected ecosystem that has the potential to generate significant value — both locally and globally.

RINJANI SELECTS has been established to help unlock that potential by supporting entrepreneurs to develop geoproducts and services: products and experiences that are meaningfully connected to the geological, natural, cultural, and human heritage of the Geopark and Biosphere Reserve.

The programme aims to move beyond the conventional model of destination-based products. Instead, it seeks to build businesses where the identity and wellbeing of the landscape are part of the value proposition itself.

“We believe the future of impact investing is not only about investing in companies, but also investing in places and the people who make those places extraordinary,” said Diemas Sukma Hawkins, Founder of Kuartal Impact.

“Rinjani-Lombok has an incredible combination of natural heritage, biodiversity, culture, creativity, and entrepreneurial energy. Through RINJANI SELECTS, we want to help entrepreneurs turn those assets into businesses that can grow sustainably while creating value for the communities and landscapes from which they emerge.”

Introducing the 2026 RINJANI SELECTS Cohort

The inaugural 2026 cohort brings together four businesses working across very different sectors, demonstrating the breadth of possibilities for geoproducts and services in Rinjani-Lombok.

TENGGARA is a fragrance brand exploring Indonesia through scent. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes, cultures, botanical heritage, and sensory experiences of the archipelago, TENGGARA seeks to translate a sense of place into contemporary fragrance products.

BARUJARI is a fashion brand inspired by the identity and character of the Rinjani-Lombok region. Through fashion and design, BARUJARI explores how local stories, aesthetics, and cultural references can be transformed into products with relevance beyond the region.

SCNDBRU is a social enterprise focused on the upcycling of coffee waste. By transforming coffee waste into new products and productive resources, SCNDBRU demonstrates how circular business models can address environmental challenges while creating new economic opportunities.

SASKA is a coffee brand focused on celebrating the quality, provenance, and potential of coffee from the region. By connecting coffee with origin and the people behind its production, SASKA seeks to strengthen the value captured within the local coffee ecosystem.

Together, the four businesses demonstrate how Rinjani-Lombok can inspire entrepreneurship across multiple sectors — from fragrance and fashion to circular economy solutions and coffee.

From Natural Heritage to Economic Value

A central objective of RINJANI SELECTS is to ensure that more of the economic value generated from Rinjani-Lombok’s unique resources and identity can be captured by local entrepreneurs, producers, and communities.

The programme supports businesses in developing commercially viable products and services while encouraging them to consider the environmental and social implications of their growth.

This includes strengthening local supply chains, encouraging responsible use of natural resources, celebrating cultural knowledge and identity, reducing waste, and creating opportunities for local communities to participate in emerging value chains.

For Kuartal Impact, this approach represents an opportunity to connect capital, entrepreneurship, conservation, and place-based development.

“A UNESCO designation is not only a recognition of what a place has; it is also an opportunity to think differently about how that place develops,” said Diemas.

“The question is how we can make the incredible natural and cultural capital of Rinjani-Lombok generate long-term value without compromising the very things that make the region special. Entrepreneurs have an important role to play in answering that question.”

Building Businesses That Belong to Their Place

RINJANI SELECTS is built around the concept that businesses can have a deeper relationship with their place of origin.

A geoproduct is not simply a product that carries the name of a destination. It can embody the geological, ecological, agricultural, cultural, and social characteristics of that landscape — creating a stronger relationship between producer, product, consumer, and place.

This creates an opportunity to take stories and resources that have traditionally been valued locally and build businesses capable of reaching national and international markets.

The ambition is for consumers to increasingly understand not only what they are buying, but where it comes from, who makes it, what ecosystems support it, and what their purchase contributes to.

In this way, successful businesses can become ambassadors for Rinjani-Lombok while creating tangible economic incentives for responsible stewardship of the landscape.

A New Model for Place-Based Impact Investing

Kuartal Impact’s support for RINJANI SELECTS forms part of a broader approach to impact investing that looks beyond individual companies to the ecosystems in which businesses operate.

Small businesses and startups are often closest to local communities and resources, but they can face significant barriers to accessing capital, business expertise, markets, and networks.

By combining investment with entrepreneurial development, RINJANI SELECTS seeks to give promising businesses the tools they need to become sustainable enterprises while contributing to wider regional objectives.

The programme will support the 2026 cohort as they develop their products, brands, business models, supply chains, and market opportunities.

Over time, the ambition is to build a growing network of RINJANI SELECTS businesses that can collaborate with one another and with farmers, producers, creatives, communities, conservation organisations, tourism operators, and other stakeholders across the Rinjani-Lombok ecosystem.

Creating a Pipeline of Rinjani-Lombok Entrepreneurs

The four businesses selected for the 2026 cohort represent the beginning of a longer-term vision.

RINJANI SELECTS aims to establish a pipeline of entrepreneurs capable of transforming the region’s natural and cultural assets into innovative, responsible, and commercially successful products and services.

As the programme develops, it will seek to identify and support more businesses that can contribute to:

  • Local economic development through entrepreneurship, employment, and stronger local value chains.
  • Conservation by creating business models that depend on and contribute to healthy ecosystems.
  • Circularity by finding productive uses for materials that would otherwise become waste.
  • Cultural preservation by transforming local stories, knowledge, traditions, and identity into contemporary products and experiences.
  • Agricultural value creation by helping producers and origin-based products capture greater value.
  • Innovation by connecting local resources and knowledge with new technologies, designs, business models, and markets.
  • Global visibility by bringing distinctive Rinjani-Lombok products and stories to consumers beyond the region.

Investing in the Future of Rinjani-Lombok

The long-term success of a Geopark and Biosphere Reserve depends not only on protecting landscapes, but also on creating a future in which local communities can prosper alongside them.

RINJANI SELECTS seeks to make entrepreneurship part of that future.

Through its investment in the programme, Kuartal Impact is supporting a model in which business growth and place-based impact can reinforce one another — where entrepreneurs can build successful companies by celebrating the natural and cultural assets of Rinjani-Lombok, rather than extracting value from them without regard for their long-term wellbeing.

The 2026 cohort of TENGGARA, BARUJARI, SCNDBRU, and SASKA marks the beginning of this journey.

Together, they represent a vision for a new generation of Indonesian businesses: businesses that are commercially ambitious, environmentally conscious, culturally connected, and deeply rooted in place.

Kuartal Impact is investing not only in these businesses, but in the idea that the future of Rinjani-Lombok can be built by entrepreneurs who understand that the greatest asset of their business is the place itself.
