Kuartal’s Future Manifesto: Why we will begin to move away from Public Markets in 2027

A new chapter for Kuartal: from analyzing markets to building what comes next.

Over the past several years, Kuartal has been built around a simple belief: capital matters.

Where capital flows determines which companies grow, which industries emerge, which technologies scale, and ultimately, which ideas become part of the economy we live in. Our work in public markets has allowed us to study these flows closely, understand businesses and industries, and develop a perspective on how capital creates both value and risk.

But as Kuartal has grown, we have begun asking a more fundamental question:

What can we accomplish if we stop only studying where capital goes, and start helping direct it toward the things we believe should exist?

Beginning in 2027, Kuartal will therefore begin a deliberate transition away from being primarily focused on public markets.

This does not mean we are abandoning public markets. We will continue to follow companies, industries, and macroeconomic developments, and Kuartal.id will continue publishing in-depth research and investment pieces on a select number of public companies and stocks.

But public markets will no longer be the center of gravity of Kuartal.

Our greater focus will be on private markets, venture building, impact investing, green finance, climate capital, and the development of enterprises that can create tangible economic, environmental, and social value.

From Market Observer to Market Builder

There is an important difference between analyzing an economy and helping build it.

Public markets offer an extraordinary vantage point. They allow investors to observe companies at scale, compare business models, study capital allocation, and understand how markets price expectations about the future.

But many of the most important economic transformations happen before companies reach the public markets.

They happen when a founder is still developing an idea. When a new technology needs its first capital. When a local business needs help becoming investable. When an ecosystem needs an institution to connect entrepreneurs, investors, governments, communities, and markets. When a new industry is being built from the ground up.

This is where we believe our network, knowledge, and capital can have a greater marginal impact.

We want to move closer to the point where capital meets creation.

That means working with entrepreneurs rather than simply analyzing companies. Building businesses rather than only valuing them. Helping promising ventures become investable rather than waiting for them to reach an exchange. And deploying capital toward opportunities where financial returns can exist alongside meaningful environmental and social outcomes.

Where We Are Going

From 2027 onward, Kuartal’s activities will increasingly be organized around several interconnected areas.

Private Markets

We will expand our advisory and investment activities across private companies, private capital, and growth opportunities that are often overlooked by traditional public-market analysis.

Our objective is not simply to find companies that can grow, but to help identify, structure, finance, and develop businesses with the potential to become important institutions in their respective industries.

Venture Building

We want to build companies, not just invest in them.

Through venture building, Kuartal will work with founders, operators, experts, and strategic partners to develop businesses from ideas and early opportunities into functioning enterprises.

This may include developing new ventures internally, partnering with existing founders, restructuring promising businesses, or helping transform overlooked opportunities into investable companies.

Incubation & Acceleration

Capital alone is rarely enough.

Entrepreneurs need networks, knowledge, customers, talent, strategic guidance, institutional relationships, and access to additional capital.

Kuartal will therefore continue developing its incubation and accelerator capabilities to help early-stage companies move from experimentation to execution and, eventually, scale.

Impact Investing

We believe investment should be capable of producing more than financial returns.

Impact investing will allow Kuartal to pursue opportunities where commercial sustainability and measurable positive outcomes can reinforce one another.

Our focus will be on businesses and projects capable of addressing real economic, social, and environmental challenges without treating impact as a substitute for financial discipline.

Social Enterprise

Some of the most important problems in emerging economies cannot be solved through conventional business models alone.

We want to support and build enterprises that can create livelihoods, strengthen communities, preserve local value, and solve problems while remaining economically viable.

For us, social enterprise is not philanthropy.

It is an attempt to build institutions capable of creating lasting value.

Green Finance & Climate Capital

The transition toward a lower-carbon economy will require enormous amounts of capital.

Kuartal intends to participate in that transition by helping connect capital with businesses, technologies, infrastructure, and projects contributing to the development of a greener economy.

This includes opportunities across climate finance, sustainable infrastructure, resource efficiency, circular economy models, and other emerging areas where environmental constraints are becoming economic opportunities.

Biodiversity & Cultural Heritage Preservation

Economic development and conservation are too often treated as opposing forces.

We believe there is an opportunity to build models where the preservation of biodiversity, landscapes, cultural heritage, and local communities becomes economically valuable rather than economically burdensome.

This means exploring investment and enterprise models around conservation, sustainable tourism, biodiversity-linked economic activity, cultural industries, and the sustainable development of places with extraordinary natural and cultural assets.

Renewable Energy & Green Industries

The energy transition will create some of the largest industrial opportunities of the coming decades.

Kuartal will increasingly explore businesses and investments connected to renewable energy, energy efficiency, green industrialization, sustainable materials, waste-to-value systems, and other technologies that can contribute to the transformation of Indonesia’s productive economy.

Why Make This Change?

The decision ultimately comes down to impact per unit of capital and effort.

There are thousands of publicly listed companies that can be analyzed. There are countless stocks that can be bought and sold. And there is no shortage of financial commentary competing for investors’ attention.

We do not believe Kuartal’s greatest contribution is to become another voice in that crowd.

We believe our comparative advantage lies elsewhere.

It lies in our network.

It lies in our ability to connect investors with founders, businesses with institutions, capital with opportunities, and commercial objectives with environmental and social outcomes.

It lies in our willingness to operate across the boundaries between finance, entrepreneurship, policy, technology, sustainability, and development.

And, increasingly, it lies in our ability to do things rather than simply write about them.

We Still Believe in Public Markets

This shift should not be interpreted as a rejection of public markets.

Public markets remain essential to the modern economy. They provide liquidity, price discovery, access to capital, and an important mechanism for individuals and institutions to participate in economic growth.

We will continue to study them.

Kuartal.id will continue producing research, analysis, and long-form investment pieces. However, rather than attempting to cover every company or every market movement, we intend to become more selective.

We will focus our research on companies and industries where we believe our analysis can provide genuine insight, particularly where public-market developments intersect with the broader themes we care about.

In other words, less noise, more conviction.

A Different Kind of Financial Platform

The next chapter of Kuartal is not about becoming less financial.

It is about becoming more directly involved in what finance makes possible.

We want Kuartal to sit at the intersection of capital and creation.

A place where investors can discover opportunities.

Where founders can find capital and strategic support.

Where businesses can become investment-ready.

Where ideas can become companies.

Where companies can become institutions.

Where capital can contribute to climate solutions, biodiversity protection, cultural preservation, renewable energy, and inclusive economic development.

And where financial returns and real-world impact do not have to be mutually exclusive.

The world does not need another platform that simply tells people what happened in the market.

We want to help shape what happens next.

That is why 2027 will mark a significant transition for Kuartal.

We will still watch the markets.

We will still study businesses.

We will still publish.

But increasingly, we will build, invest, advise, incubate, and create.

Because ultimately, our ambition is not simply to understand where capital is going.

It is to help determine where it should go.
