What We Believe
We believe an economy should help people live well without using up the planet. That's the goal, and it doesn't change. What we conclude along the way does, because we follow the evidence. Nobody who pays us, whether a sponsor, a client, a government or a partner, gets to decide what we say. And we always show our working, including the best argument against us, so you can make up your own mind.
In practice, that means we don't stop at profit and growth. We also ask who gets paid, who owns what, what happens to nature, and how the people nearby are doing. And we put Indonesia and Southeast Asia first, giving nickel, coal, village cooperatives and small businesses the same serious attention the big outlets give Wall Street.
Knowledge, Art, Capital, Earth
Four words we've believed in from day one. Knowledge: good decisions start with understanding, so we take the time to get things right. Art: creativity is how we imagine a better future before we build it, and some things are worth making by hand. Capital: money is a tool, and what matters is what it builds. Earth: every business, city and savings account depends on the planet, so we look after it.
